The investigation process begins when a complaint has been received. Assessment of the complaint takes about 10 to 15 minutes if urgent and up to 48 hours otherwise. After the receipt and assessment of the complaint, there are 4 possible scenarios: The complaint can be:
- Dismissed and closed
- Closed after the complainant has been advised
- Referred to other law enforcement agencies
- Investigated, information gathered and analyzed after which mediation can take place. This will usually takes between 1 and 10 days and is followed by a remedial action
